Hepatobiliary disorders are monitored and diagnosed with the use of gamma-glutamyltransferase. One of the most sensitive markers currently available is the enzymatic activity of GGT, which is frequently the only parameter with elevated values when testing for such disorders. Another sensitive screening test for occult alcoholism is gamma-glutamyltransferase. Patients who require long-term phenobarbital and phenytoin therapy have elevated GGT activity in their serum.
